Born 1984, Ahmedabad, India

Having lived in three continents and in a span of 5 years, the idea of home has changed as I moved from one home to the next. I belong to a world where cultural identities are blurred. My work has been inspired and altered by the challenges of new opportunities and by the limitations brought by new circumstances. Every place has meant something new to me and my practice is informed from the new images, stories and experiences.

The numerous catalogues and magazines that come in the mail each week inform this recent body of work. I find myself walking into stores and shopping for things I never thought I ‘needed’. My works are a comment on this funny encounter with the so called ‘western consumerist culture’. The works are titled in a form of a catalogue where I find myself referencing to my objects of desire.

‘Painted Collages’ has been a new and challenging medium for me. I use images from Indian Pop culture, Indian textiles and juxtapose them with images from catalogues and magazines. This creates a fusion of the two cultures, both of which are a major part of my identity today.
